Susan Bergstrom teaches Jr. Kindergarten in room 122. She has worked for Bethel Preschool for 7 years and holds her Bachelors in Early Childhood Education from Bethany Bible College. She is currently completing classes to receive her Child Development Permit. Her favorite thing to do is to shop at Macy's, go to the movies and spend time with her friends. |

Overview of Academics
Our program involves a non-denominational Biblical teaching and prayer. A Beka text books are used for language, math, reading, writing, social studies, science, poetry, music, and art.

Language Arts: Phonics and Reading
Children begin by learning the sounds of the vowels and consonants and progress to reading blends and words. |
- Children will learn to the recognition, name, sound, and identify by picture long and short vowels and consonants.
- Sounding of blends, one and two vowel words, and words with special sounds.
- Beginning phonics rules and special sounds like bl, ch, cr, dr, fl, and oo.
- Reading from colorful and interesting books prepared especially for their age level that include one and two vowel words and special sounds.

Language Arts: Writing
Children learn to write each of the small letters of the alphabet first. Later, most of the major capital letters are introduced and students are able to write sentences.
|
- Children will learn good writing position: to include sitting correctly, using a slant guide, slanting paper correctly, and holding the pencil correctly.
- Writing letters, blends, words, and sentences.
- Proper sentence structure to include recognition of sentences by capital letters and periods.
- Preparation for actual cursive.

Language Enrichment
Activities scheduled for this time include using Language Enrichment Cards to teach positional words and opposites, working with rhyming words and analogies, recognition of incorrectly used words, drama, and poetry.
Arithmetic
Children learn to count and recognize numbers 1-100. They also learn to work with the following number concepts: |
- Number families
- Before, after, and between numbers
- Smallest to largest numbers
- Number words (one-ten)
- Counting to 100 by 1s, 2s, 5s, and 10s and combinations for the One-Ten Addition Families
- Addition
- Telling time and money
- Exposure to subtraction and measurement
- Learning to write from 1-19 and writing by 2s, 5s, and 10s to 100 as well as by families (20-29, 30-39, etc.)

Skills Development
Development designed to develop skills needed for a child's physical, mental, social, and personal growth. Most weeks include one lesson from each of four categories (social/personal skills, visual perception, motor coordination, listening/thinking), resulting in a balanced skills program. |

Activity Time
Development that includes Art, Music, Social Studies, and Science. This time is intended to increase the student's love for art and music, and to expose them to interesting information about history, science, and social studies, while emphasizing God's love and care for us.
Bible
Familiar Bible stories are expanded into a theme of “God's Gifts to Me” as students study how God gives gifts of the world, families, friends, leaders, salvation, the church, and a way to live. Daily Schedule
